Some of us remember when the north side of Elm Street in downtown Dallas was known as Film Row.

It stretched from the Majestic Theatre on the east down to the Rialtoon the west – roughly just below Harwood to just above Akard. And before film was the dominant entertainment, there was vaudeville along the street.

That era is being revived on the stage of the Majestic Theatre with Spectacular Senior Follies, a fundraiser for the preservation of the theater, which may fall victim to the advent of the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts.

"You have be 55 to be in the show, but music keeps these performers young, and this kind of music never gets old," said Mark Carroll, the creative force behind the show. "I think the public will be really impressed with the caliber of talent we've assembled, many from successful careers on stage."

The performances, which will feature such public luminaries as Ebby Halliday, Kenneth Cooper, Zig Ziglar and Michael Jenkins during intermission, will be held at 8 p.m. today, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets, which range from $15 to $45, may be purchased at the box office.
